Day 13: A Meal Fit For Kings

Today was jam packed! Even though we got to wake up a bit later, it was still hard to get out of bed. I started my day off with a shower to wake up, then did a bit of makeup to look presentable.

Then, we were on our way to curling. We made our way to our tram line, but while we were waiting, a car drove in a puddle and splashed Matt, Lyndsey, and me, so that was entertaining. We took the tram to the ferry, then took the ferry across the river. After that, it was a short walk in the rain to the facility.

Once we got settled in the right area of the building, they had us put on our curling shoes and helmets, and we picked out our sweepers.

Our instructor first made us test out the ice without our left foot grip, and I absolutely looked like a fool. While sliding across the ice and back, I fell twice, and Sarah helped me up! I was worried I would pull her down too, but she was a champ.

Curling is a lot harder than it looks. I swear, I never would have known. I could never quite get the form right while throwing the stone, and I fell quite a few more times.

Jackson and Robbie were both pretty good, and Lyndsey carried our team, because I really couldn’t do a lot. Also, it was really cold in there! I know they told us to dress warm, and I wore a turtleneck and jeans, but I still felt it quite a bit.

After an hour, most of us were running out of steam. It was surprising tiring. By 12:30, we were all ready to leave, but some of the boys were still fooling around.

We all walked out together and took the ferry back over. Then, we made a pit stop at the hostel to grab some stuff, and a group of us went to Nordstan.

There, we ate McDonald’s (Amercians, right?), and after that, I did the returned I needed to do.

After that, Robbie, Leslye, and I made our way to Haga so they could get gifts for people. We helped Robbie pick out a scarf for his girlfriend, and he also spend way too much on shot glasses for people.

I stopped in this cute shop we walked by earlier, as the window drew my eye. It ended up being adorable! They had printed shirts with local designs and Gothenburg inspired merchandise, along with prints and art work.

I bought a few postcard prints, some buttons, and a magnet with their Gothenburg print. The women running the shop were also so nice, and I enjoyed making conversation with them. I also looked at the items outside my favorite antique store again.

Then, on our way back to the hostel, we stopped by a local cafe so I could meet Bentley, Robby’s favorite dog that the owner lets people pet. He was a sweetie, and while Robby had bonding time with him, I ordered a chai latte.

I pet Bentley for a bit, and he licked my face. That was where things got interesting. Once we were back in the hostel, my face started to itch. I didn’t think much of it at first.

But then, I went to the bathroom and saw my face in the mirror. The bottom half of my face had red splotches and everything was itchy. I’ve never had a reaction to anything before, so I was very concerned. I took two allergy pills, covered my face with more foundation, and Sarah gave me lavender oil for the irritation.

Luckily, you couldn’t tell too much, but I was itchy for at least 45 minutes after.

Then, we took the tram to Gothia Towers for our last dinner in Gothenburg. Tonight, we finally got to try the King’s sandwich at Heaven 23.

The restaurant was beautiful! It was classy, and we all had to dress up to fit in here. I got the window seat, so I could see a large portion of the city and the ferris wheel. I was very impressed with the decor and presentation.

The sandwich itself consisted of a bread bottom with mayo, lettuce, shrimp, pickled onion, sweet cucumber, and caviar on top.

It definitely had a reputation.

After dinner, we all went to TinTin’s for one last hurrah. I got my vanilla latte and carrot cake this time around. It was a lovely end to the day to just sit down with some friends and enjoy each other’s company. I’m really going to miss everyone.

After dessert, some of us went to 7-Eleven to buy energy drinks to prepare for an all nighter! We plan to write our papers tonight and just sleep on the plane tomorrow, so wish us luck!

Daily Reflections

1. Just a hat and turtleneck won’t cut it for curling, and I have less balance than I thought.

2. Sometimes doing things for yourself is ok.

3. I’m really going to miss this place and the people I got to experience it with.
