Day 11: Sleepy Sunday

Today was my first late start! I finally had time to sleep in and rest my body, since we’ve been on the go so much. Packing in a lot has been fun, but it’s also been exhausting.

After going out and celebrating the birthdays last night, I got back around 2, and proceeded to fall asleep while hanging out with people in the secret lounge.

Jackson woke me up and sent me to bed, and the next time I woke up, it was 8 a.m., and Jan was knocking on my door because Peyton had left her purse and phone in the bathroom.

After thanking Jan, I went back to sleep and didn’t wake up until a little after 11. This isn’t surprising, because I sleep like a bear. I only woke up because Peyton was getting ready to go out with Jackson for the day.

Once I was up, I decided to organize my things and repack to be more efficient. It wasn’t messy in the first place, but it made me feel better about myself. Then, I showered really quick to get ready for the day, and it was the best shower I’ve taken here so far.

I didn’t eat all morning, so after my shower, I snacked on some peanuts while I waited for Leslye. Her boyfriend went back to the United Kingdom today, so I said goodbye to Stuart, and then Leslye and I went across the street to TinTin’s so I could finally eat.

We also wanted to work on our blogs, so this was the best of both worlds. As always, I had a vanilla latte to start my day off. I don’t know how they’re so good here! For food, I tried to order breakfast, but I was too late. Instead, I decided to order the pesto and mozzarella toast again.

The WiFi wasn’t working at first, so Leslye and I chatted for a while, and we had a great time. We talked about mutual friends from home, and it was good to have a day off to relax. Finally, the WiFi connected, so we both blogged, but I mainly went through my LinkedIn page and watched the dogs walking past our window seat.

Then, once it was close to 5, we walked to the grocery store so I could grab a Coca-Cola and a mango apple smoothie. We dropped our laptops off in our rooms, then we made our way over across the street to the big kitchen.

We picked partners for pizzas, and J.J. and I both like Hawaiian pizza, so we were a pair for the night. We all went to the store together to get groceries for our appetizers and desserts, and once again, I was a part of the dessert group.

We decided on crepes, a variety of cakes and pies, and ice cream, jam, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream for the crepes.

Then, a few others and I went with J.J. to order the pizzas, and then we waited there to bring them back. There were 12 overall, and I carried four. I didn’t feel bad for not helping with the food in the kitchen, because we had too many cooks in there as it was.

We came back with the pizzas, and people we already eating the appetizers. We had a great spread of food, and I had some bread, artichoke dip, and cheese.

We laid all the pizzas out, and then everyone was free to dig in. We laid them all on one table, and I just grabbed two Hawaiian slices. That honestly filled me up, and I really wanted to make sure I saved room for dessert, which was amazing.

My crepe was amazing! I put raspberry sorbet in the middle with some raspberry jam, folded it, then put more raspberry jam, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce on top. I was very proud of myself, and it tasted delicious.

After we ate, Sam Ram and I weren’t feeling so good, so we headed back across the street to our rooms. It was nice to just lay down to rest and digest. Then, I finally had time to talk to some of my friends back home at a normal time for us both. It was a nice way to end the day, and even though I miss home at the moment, I can’t imagine leaving Gothenburg in a few days.

Daily Reflections

  1. The jam and jelly here is superb, and it pairs so well with crepes.
  2. The Swedes are a solitary people, and I’d love to live here, but I couldn’t do it.
  3. Grocery shopping is better with friends.
