Day 4: Island Hopping

Today was the day! I can’t tell if I couldn’t sleep because of the jet lag or due to excitement. Since the forecast was still sunny, we were on our way to the islands.

We had to make our sandwiches at the hostel, because the restaurant on the island was closed. I made a turkey, ham, cheese, and mayo sandwich, and then they wrapped them for us at the counter.

Then, we made our way to the tram! While it’s crowded sometimes, I love the public transportation here. We switched trams once, then had to take a bus to the ferry. They really pack as many people as they can on the buses. Everyone was squished together, but the ride wasn’t terribly long.

Finally, we got on the ferry! It was decently sized, and on the way there, I stayed on the upstairs outside deck to take pictures. The wind made it a bit chilly, but I was comfortable in my coat.

The ferry had a tiny cafe, and even though I wanted coffee, I don’t drink it fast enough to order anything in that time period. While we were inside, Jackson and I had to get our pictures of each others that are now a daily occurrence.

Being outside was amazing. The water really churns, and I love the feeling of the wind on my face, even though it burns a little. The sun was too bright, but I didn’t want to wear my sunglasses because it made seeing my camera difficult.

Once we landed on the island, we immediately set off! One of the first things I saw on the path were goats! I’m obsessed with them, and I would love to own goats and chickens one day.

Also, I got to see one of my favorite animals today! I’ve missed my cats at home, and we ran into a few island cats. The first one had a small cut on his ear, but he was a sweetie. All of us went to pet it, but then we found out Matt Carlin is really allergic, and that put a damper on things.

Overall, the island was beautiful. The cottage style houses are everything I want in life, and I love how small and quiet everything is.

We trekked along until we reached “Susie’s Cove.” Honestly, I know this will be a highlight of the trip. We had our picnic here, and while the rocks could be a bit slippery, we all managed to make our way around and take so many pictures!

On our way back by ourselves, we ran into another cat! He was a sweetie too, and I really wanted to take him home.

I managed to pick up some really cool rocks and shells like J.J. mentioned, and i really hope I don’t break them.

Leaving at sunset was beautiful, and I’m so glad we had this day and that the weather stayed nice.

Daily Reflections

  1. Do it for the content.
  2. Swedish coffee is always better no matter what.
  3. Maybe if we took care of our environment, our air would smell this good.
